How To Save Like A Pro

Jul 14, 2020

Let’s be honest here. We all know at least one person who is able to say no to any temptation if it means they save a dollar. But how do they do it? How do you save and say no even when they really want something? And does it really help that much?

Well it’s actually much easier then you might think.

They simply separate needs and wants.

A need is something you must have to ensure your everyday survival and or to continue living life within your current situation. An example of a need is the need for food, the need to pay bills, and the need to go to work. These are all things you must do and cannot skip even if you want to.

A want on the other hand is simply that. Something you desire to have but don’t physically need to ensure you day to day survival.

So how does separating needs and wants help you save like a pro? Well anyone who is a seasoned saver will tell you that the single best way to save money is to only purchase what you need rather than want! When you are only paying for things you need the amount you can save each week is astonishing! Think about how much you could save if you stopped getting takeout food? Now what if you also added your Netflix subscription to that and your weekly coffees? Every time you say no to a want that is money staying in your bank that you could really need later down the line.

But what if you still want to have fun?

You can still have an amazing life and save at the same time. The secret is to simply say no more often. Every time you say no you are one step closer to hitting your savings goal. Even if that is you only saying no to going out this weekend and yes to next. Or even saying no to getting takeaway for dinner and instead cooking. Every time you say no you are a step closer to reaching your savings goal and it adds up very quickly!

So in summary how do you save like a pro? Only buy what you need rather than want. If you can’t do that then start by trying to say no more often and see how these small lifestyle changes can make a big difference to your life.
